|ABOUT US||VOLUMES||SUBMIT WORK||SUBSCRIBE||EDITOR'S LINES||POETRY CONTEST|
All types of poetry are welcome, from formal to experimental. Emphasis is placed on the ideas conveyed, craft and language, beauty of expression, and the picture that extends beyond the frame of the poem. Length is open, up to three pages, max. Quality is paramount. TW uses some longer poems. No previously published poems, please. Send up to five poems.
The rules of fiction apply to this genre, but brevity is of the essence, 1,000 to 1,500 words or about three pages, double spaced. A beginning, middle, and resolution of conflict outweigh character development. Send only one or two stories per submission.
Black and white pictures that reproduce well may include ink drawings, collages, and photographs. Send clear reproductions (not originals) that can be copied easily and clearly. Work may need to be provided on a disk if it is accepted.
FINANCES AND RECOMPENSE:
Payment is one contributor’s copy plus a small honorarium ($3 to $5 if your work appears in our pages). THIRD WEDNESDAY sells at $8.00 a copy, a yearly subscription (three or four issues) at $30. Send $8.00 with your submission if you want a copy of the current edition; two copies will be sent if your work is accepted. Financial assistance is needed and gratefully accepted. Make checks payable to Third Wednesday.
Rolling. Seasonal work should be sent three months in advance. Thus, poems about winter should be sent in August, spring poems in January, etc.
We strongly prefer email submissions. We can accept submissions by postal (USPS) mail, too. If submission is by postal mail, then include SASE. With either submission method, we'd like an email address and telephone number, (which will not be given out) so we can contact you with editorial or other questions if the need arises. If you can't give us both email and phone number, we'll try to contact you with the one that you hopefully can give us, should the need arise. Allow six weeks for notification. If work is held over for a subsequent issue, you will be advised.
THIRD WEDNESDAY accepts classified ads related to any arts-related activities.
Rates: $10.00 per ad, per issue. Advertising is free for a limited number of groups, arts-related activities. Most common: books for sale. Include a short promotion and all purchasing information.
